ERIK JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Erik Johnson moved to Solana Beach with his family in the early 1970’s and quickly embraced the developing community around him. He was among the first graduating classes at Torrey Pines, finishing in 1981, and left a mark on the school through his involvement in both the marching and jazz bands as a trombone player. In addition to playing several other instruments himself, Erik was always eager to share his love of music as a way to connect with those around him.

Erik also had an early fascination with technology, particularly computers and cameras. He taught himself how to code, assemble PCs from scratch, and develop photos using his own equipment. He eventually channeled that technical curiosity into a dynamic 30-year career as a software engineer.

His Legacy at Torrey Pines carried on through the next generation, with his three children graduating from TPHS in 2015, 2017, and 2020. A plaque honoring Erik is on display in the Performing Arts Center Lobby.

This scholarship recognizes students who, like Erik, demonstrate a commitment to creative pursuits whether in the arts, technology, or both.
